On January 29, Reuters reported that SoftBank is currently in discussions to potentially invest up to $25 billion into OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, as stated by the Financial Times.

The report suggests that SoftBank may invest between $15 billion and $25 billion directly into OpenAI, in addition to its initial commitment of over $15 billion to the Stargate project. The initiative, a collaboration between Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank, aims to allocate $500 billion to bolster the United States' position in the global AI competition against countries like China.

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, "The talks regarding SoftBank's potential investment in OpenAI are ongoing, with the investment amount being a fluid figure," as reported by the FT.

OpenAI and SoftBank have not yet replied to the request for comments.
