At least four people have died in severe storms near Texas' border with Mexico, marked by heavy rain and flooding. Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron counties experienced some of the worst conditions, with storms persisting for approximately 48 hours.

Hidalgo County reported at least three fatalities linked to law enforcement efforts, though further details were not immediately available. An 83-year-old man also drowned in Reynosa, Mexico, according to authorities in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Thunderstorms began Wednesday, with additional heavy rainfall occurring Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing into Friday. The U.S. National Weather Service issued multiple flash flooding emergency warnings for affected areas, describing the situation as particularly dangerous.

In McAllen, the South Texas Health System hospital experienced minor flooding on its first floor, and several school districts in the region canceled classes. The area recorded between 6 inches and a foot of rain, with some locations receiving even more.
