Security Firm Identifies North Korean Hackers in $1.5 Billion Crypto Attack

North Korean hackers, identified as the Lazarus Group, stole $1.5 billion in cryptocurrency from Bybit during a routine Ethereum transfer, according to security firms. Bybit's CEO, Ben Zhou, announced that the company has restored its reserves post-theft and affirmed its financial stability. Within minutes, the hackers laundered approximately $160 million of the stolen funds through accounts associated with North Korean operatives, as reported by TRM Labs. Experts are gravely concerned about the magnitude of this theft, emphasizing the significant financial impact on North Korea's nuclear funding, as noted by former FBI analyst Nick Carlsen.
