The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has rebranded its Cyber Unit to Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit to shift its focus from crypto enforcement. The change, announced on Thursday, involves reducing the number of personnel dedicated to crypto enforcement from 50 to around 30 fraud specialists and attorneys. Acting Chair Mark Uyeda highlighted that the unit's goal is to safeguard investors and promote innovation in emerging technologies like crypto and artificial intelligence. The unit will address cyber-related misconduct and work alongside the SEC's existing Crypto Task Force.
