Samsung Electronics Nominates Chip Executives as New Board Members

Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that it has nominated Jun Young-hyun, the head of its chip business, and Chief Technology Officer Song Jai-hyuk to its board. The move aims to enhance competitiveness in the company's struggling semiconductor division. Additionally, the company disclosed the nomination of Seoul National University Professor Lee Hyuk-jae as an external director. Lee, an expert in chip technology, leads the semiconductor research center at Seoul National University.

By appointing two chip industry executives and a semiconductor academic to the board, Samsung aims to reinforce its focus on semiconductor technology at a strategic level. The company has been working vigorously to regain its market position in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, particularly in light of losing ground to domestic competitor SK Hynix in this segment.

The nominations for the new board members will be subject to a voting process during a shareholders' meeting scheduled for March 19.
