Russia's foreign intelligence service, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), has issued an English-language video calling on "true American patriots" concerned about global peace to engage via secure communication in response to CIA attempts to enlist Russians.
The Central Intelligence Agency of the US has claimed that the conflict in Ukraine serves as a platform to recruit Russian agents. In 2023, the CIA released a video targeting Russian officials, described as "riddled with lying sycophants" by the SVR.
The SVR, the main successor to the Soviet-era KGB's First Main Directorate, has ridiculed the CIA's recruitment efforts as "clumsy." Their video, available on their website and Telegram, references the joint Soviet-U.S. efforts during World War Two against Nazi Germany and highlights the hazards posed by the conflict in Ukraine.
"We are adamant that the Central Intelligence Agency's disruptive endeavors are in vain, and that both the Russian and American peoples have not forgotten the heroic collaboration in combating Nazism," the SVR stated.
The SVR video, featuring satire of CIA videos along with poignant images depicting historical events, transitions to stark visuals of the conflict in Ukraine, where the US and other Western countries have supported Kyiv economically and militarily.
The video concludes with instructions for interested Americans to communicate with the SVR via the TOR network for anonymous interactions.
The SVR's video release coincides with speculation about US President Donald Trump's potential efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict. A Russian lawmaker stated that preparations for a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are in an advanced phase.
Throughout history, the SVR and its predecessors have managed some of the most notorious US traitors, such as Julius Rosenberg, who aided the Soviets in acquiring nuclear secrets, and the moles Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames, who exposed thousands of classified US data.
