Teddy bears, large and small, surround the grave of Adam Buhayov as if keeping him company. Together with the 17-month-old, his mother Sophiia Buhayova, 27, rests in the grave, located in a desolate cemetery in Zaporizhzhia, a city in southern Ukraine. Adam's great-grandmother, Tetiana Tarasevych, 68, also lies beside them. These three lives were claimed together on 7 November last year during a Russian attack in the ongoing conflict that has engulfed Ukraine since 2022. Despite its continuation, the conflict no longer holds the prominence it once did on the international stage.
