On Thursday, the Kremlin responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's threat of imposing new sanctions and tariffs on Russia if it did not cooperate to end the conflict in Ukraine. Trump expressed his stance by stating, "If we don't make a 'deal,' and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries."

Trump noted that resolving the conflict would be beneficial to both Russia and Putin, referring to the ongoing war as "this ridiculous war." Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Trump's statements, mentioning that Trump had a history of implementing sanctions against Russia during his first term as president. Peskov stated, "We do not see any particularly new elements here. He likes these methods, at least he liked them during his first presidency."

Peskov emphasized that Moscow closely monitors all of Trump's remarks and remains open to dialogue, as President Putin has consistently advocated for equal and mutually respectful engagement. Trump, who recently stated that the Ukraine conflict was negatively impacting Russia, expressed his intention to have discussions with Putin in the near future. Peskov noted that Moscow is awaiting further communication from the U.S. side.
