A U.S. Air Force plane transporting Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Munich was compelled to return to Washington on Thursday due to a mechanical problem, as confirmed by State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
Secretary Rubio intends to proceed with his journey to Germany and the Middle East using a different aircraft, Bruce stated.
The possibility of Rubio attending a meeting with Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, scheduled for Friday morning at the Munich Security Conference, was uncertain.
The mechanical issue on the C-32 plane, a modified Boeing 757, was attributed to a crack in the cockpit windshield, causing the aircraft to turn back approximately 90 minutes into the flight.
Rubio’s plane safely landed at Joint Base Andrews, just outside of the capital, around 10 p.m., after departing at approximately 7 p.m.
