U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha discussed bold diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war in a phone call on Thursday, as reported by the State Department.

This conversation followed U.S. President Trump's engagement in discussions about the conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Trump's involvement marks a significant move towards diplomacy in a conflict he has pledged to resolve.

The State Department stated that Rubio and Sybiha emphasized the importance of bold diplomacy for ending the war through negotiation and achieving lasting peace. Furthermore, Rubio reaffirmed Washington's support for Ukrainian independence.

Regarding Ukraine's territorial claims, Trump expressed skepticism on Wednesday about the practicality of Ukraine regaining all its lost land in the conflict with Russia.

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia began in February 2022, following the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
