In southern Mexico, a bus accident has resulted in over three dozen fatalities, local media announced on Saturday. The incident occurred on a route between Cancun and Tabasco. "We are ready to assist federal and state authorities with any requests," stated Ovidio Peralta, the mayor of Comalcalco in Tabasco.
According to information provided by the bus operator, Tours Acosta, there were 44 passengers on board. The company expressed deep regret over the tragedy and stated on Facebook that they are cooperating with authorities to determine the cause. They highlighted that the bus was operating within the speed limits.
Ramiro Lopez, the Tabasco Secretary of Government, mentioned that an official update including the number and identities of the victims will be provided later today.
