According to Bloomberg News on Friday, Oracle Corp is in talks with the Indonesian government about establishing a cloud services center on Batam Island. The preferred site is Nongsa Digital Park due to its "free trade zone" status and its proximity to Singapore and Malaysia, where Oracle also plans to offer cloud services.
In early October, Oracle announced intentions to invest over $6.5 billion to create its initial public cloud region in Malaysia. Reuters' request for comments from Oracle, Indonesia's Investment Ministry, and Communication Ministry went unanswered.
Oracle aims to expand its operations in Asia, with plans for additional data centers and infrastructure projects stretching "from Japan all the way down to New Zealand... all the way to India," as stated by Garrett Ilg, Oracle's executive vice president for Japan and Asia Pacific, in a previous Reuters statement. Oracle currently operates two cloud computing facilities in Singapore and boasts 50 public cloud regions in 24 countries, according to their website.
