On January 17, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, announced that its new reasoning AI model, o3 mini, has been finalized and is set to launch in a few weeks, as stated by CEO Sam Altman on Friday. The company, backed by Microsoft, will be releasing the application programming interface (API) and ChatGPT simultaneously, following consideration of user feedback. This move is seen as a response to market competition, particularly from Alphabet's Google, in the development of advanced AI models.
Initially planned for release by the end of January, the o3 mini and subsequent full o3 launch aim to outperform existing models, drawing new investments and users due to their enhanced capabilities. The GenAI pioneer, in September 2024, prioritized enhancing query processing for tackling more complex issues.
According to OpenAI, the o1 models can handle intricate tasks and address more demanding challenges in scientific, coding, and mathematical domains compared to previous models. The upcoming o3 and o3 mini models are expected to surpass the capabilities of the o1 models, signaling a significant advancement in AI technology.
In a recent announcement, OpenAI revealed plans to integrate ChatGPT into the virtual assistant market, potentially competing with established players like Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. The previous release of ChatGPT in late 2022 generated extensive interest in AI companies, reflecting its increasing popularity and driving new investments, with subsequent product launches contributing to this trend.
