On January 28, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, mentioned that Chinese companies are actively attempting to access U.S. counterparts in order to enhance Chinese artificial intelligence models.

"As a prominent AI developer, we employ strategies to safeguard our intellectual property, including a meticulous process for determining which cutting-edge capabilities to incorporate in our released models. Moving forward, we consider it crucial to collaborate closely with the U.S. government to safeguard the most advanced models from attempts by rivals and competitors to exploit U.S. technology," stated OpenAI in a release.

These remarks from OpenAI came in response to concerns raised by China's DeepSeek, which are currently being evaluated by the White House.

David Sacks, the White House's AI and cryptocurrency advisor, highlighted that a technique known as "distillation" could potentially enable Chinese companies to glean insights from U.S. AI leaders.
