On February 27, OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, announced the release of a research preview of its latest GPT-4.5 model for Pro users and developers globally, with plans to broaden access in the upcoming weeks.
According to the company, GPT-4.5 boasts enhanced pattern recognition, the ability to generate creative insights without explicit reasoning, and increased emotional intelligence.
OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, will initially introduce GPT-4.5 to ChatGPT Plus and Team users next week, followed by Enterprise and Education users the subsequent week.
CEO Sam Altman described the model as "a significant and costly advancement," noting that GPU capacity constraints necessitated a staggered rollout across user tiers due to unforeseen growth surges.
In a post on X, Altman mentioned, "We will be adding tens of thousands of GPUs next week... While not our preferred mode of operation, it's challenging to predict growth spikes that lead to GPU shortages."
OpenAI also highlighted that GPT-4.5 addresses the issue of "hallucinations," prevalent in large language models, with a reduced rate of 37.1%, compared to 61.8% in GPT-4o, and 44% in its o1 reasoning model.
Moreover, GPT-4.5 supports file and image uploads, and can assist with writing and coding tasks, although it does not currently offer advanced features like voice and video support.
