OpenAI COO to Drive Global Growth in Expanded Role, Says Altman

OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap will lead global expansion and corporate partnerships, as CEO Sam Altman announced the company's strategy to reinforce its position in the rapidly growing AI industry.

Altman will increasingly concentrate on the technical aspects to enhance the research and product initiatives of the ChatGPT-maker, while still overseeing overall operations.

The company is partnering with SoftBank Group and Oracle on the $500-billion Stargate project, which aims to support artificial intelligence workloads.

Lightcap will focus on business strategy, key partnerships, infrastructure, and operational excellence to maximize the impact of OpenAI's research.

Having previously collaborated with Altman at venture capital firm Y Combinator, Lightcap joined OpenAI in 2018.

OpenAI has also expanded the responsibilities of Chief Research Officer Mark Chen, who will now integrate research and product development.

In February, Altman indicated that OpenAI would adapt its approach to secure new investments amid increasing expenditures in artificial intelligence.

OpenAI, which is in the process of raising $40 billion, is seeking to develop the best AI models, a move it believes is essential for its future growth.
