OpenAI and Meta Discuss AI Partnerships with Reliance, Reports The Information

OpenAI and Meta Platforms have engaged in separate discussions with India's Reliance Industries regarding potential partnerships to expand their artificial intelligence offerings in the country, according to a report from The Information.

One possibility under consideration involves a collaboration between Reliance Jio and OpenAI to distribute ChatGPT. The report indicates that OpenAI is also contemplating reducing the ChatGPT subscription price to several dollars instead of the current $20 per month, though it remains unclear if this idea has been discussed with Reliance.

Additionally, Reliance has explored the option of providing OpenAI's models to its enterprise customers via an application programming interface (API). The report mentions that the Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate is also considering hosting and operating OpenAI models locally to ensure that customer data remains within India.

Furthermore, Reliance is discussing the implementation of Meta and OpenAI models in a planned three-gigawatt data center, which it claims will be the largest in the world, located in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Meta declined to comment on the report, and OpenAI and Reliance did not immediately respond to inquiries. Reliance Industries is one of India's largest conglomerates, with interests spanning petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, retail, and green energy.
