Ofwat Investigates Thames Water for Environmental Delays

Ofwat has initiated an inquiry into Thames Water due to its failure to complete over 100 environmental protection projects that customers have funded through their bills. Potential fines could reach up to 10% of Thames Water's subsidiary turnover, as the company caters to 16 million customers. Despite committing to delivering 812 environmental schemes between 2020 and 2025, Thames Water has encountered delays in completing over 100 projects by the March 2025 deadline. The company is grappling with financial challenges, burdened by more than £16 billion in debt and requiring £3.3 billion over the next five years to sustain its operations.
