Newly discovered asteroid 2024 YR4 has now been identified with a 3.1% probability of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032. Referred to as a 'city-killer' asteroid due to its size ranging between 130-300 feet, this impact could be as powerful as 500 Hiroshima bombs.
The significance lies in the potential risk posed to more than 110 million individuals across eight major cities, with possible impact regions extending from South America to South Asia. Observationally, the asteroid will not be visible again until after April 2028, significantly reducing the time available for critical monitoring.
