Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has rolled out Grok-3, its latest chatbot, aiming to rival Chinese AI company DeepSeek, Microsoft-supported OpenAI, and Google within the competitive AI field.
Grok-3's launch coincides with a crucial phase in the AI competition, following DeepSeek's unveiling of a potent open-source model. Musk is actively expanding xAI's reach.
The chatbot is now available to Premium+ subscribers on X, Musk's social media platform. xAI is also introducing a new subscription level, SuperGrok, for users on its mobile app and Grok.com website.
During a livestream event with three xAI engineers, Musk praised Grok-3, stating it surpasses its predecessor, Grok-2, and elevates xAI's status in the open-source LLM leadership race.
Gil Luria, managing director at D.A. Davidson, remarked, "The introduction of Grok-3 positions xAI competitively in the LLM sector," recognizing its benchmark superiority.
xAI is expanding its data center capacity in Memphis, Tennessee, with the colossal "Colossus" supercomputer cluster to train cutting-edge models, investing billions of dollars.
Luria cautioned that the enhancements in the Grok-3 model might not justify the significant resources allocated for its training.
The latest update incorporates DeepSearch, a sophisticated search engine enabling the chatbot to articulate its decision-making process when addressing user inquiries, demonstrated during the livestream.
Recently, a group of investors led by Musk offered $97.4 billion to purchase OpenAI's nonprofit assets, positioning xAI as a significant player in the AI industry.
