Members of Parliament are poised to see a 2.8% increase in their basic salary to £93,904 starting in April. This decision was made by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. Ipsa's suggestion aligns with the government's strategy for public sector employees, such as teachers and NHS workers, and will be confirmed by mid-March post consultation. The proposed raise surpasses the current inflation rate of 2.5% and is part of a three-year initiative to correlate salary hikes with average public sector pay rates. Ipsa Chair, Richard Lloyd, noted that the salary adjustment acknowledges the "current economic climate" and the significance of MPs' roles within the broader public sector.
