Meta Launches Testing of X-Style Community Notes on Facebook and Instagram

Meta Platforms Inc. will transition from third-party fact-checking to a crowd-sourced system for content moderation by testing 'Community Notes' beginning March 18, 2025. This change will see the discontinuation of the current fact-checking program in the United States. Through 'Community Notes,' users on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads can write and rate notes on content, with around 200,000 users already enrolled. Notably, content with Community Notes will not be subject to penalties or decreased visibility on Meta's platforms, distinguishing it from the previous moderation approach.
