Meta Engages in Discussions for $200 Billion AI Data Center Project, According to The Information

On Feb 25, Reuters reported that Meta Platforms is exploring the construction of a new data center campus dedicated to its artificial intelligence initiatives, with potential costs exceeding $200 billion, as per sources familiar with the matter cited by The Information.

According to the report, Meta executives have been discussing potential locations in states such as Louisiana, Wyoming, or Texas, with senior leadership having recently visited prospective sites.

The surge in AI investment since the launch of Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2022 reflects companies' efforts across diverse sectors to integrate artificial intelligence into their products and services.

Meta's spokesperson refuted the report, asserting that the company's data center plans and capital expenditures are already public knowledge, dismissing any additional information as "pure speculation."

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously stated the company's intention to invest significantly this year to enhance its AI infrastructure.

In comparison, Microsoft announced plans to invest in fiscal 2025 to develop data centers, while retail giant Amazon indicated that its 2025 spending would surpass the estimated $75 billion in 2024.
