"Mali's military government has seized three tons of gold from the Canadian mining company Barrick amid a revenue dispute, according to an internal Barrick letter seen by The Associated Press. The gold, valued at around $180 million, was taken from a mine near Kayes and transported to Bamako, confirmed a senior Barrick manager. Mali previously issued an arrest warrant for Barrick's CEO, Mark Bristow, without providing evidence, and has arrested four senior executives of the company. Mali's military government is increasing pressure on foreign mining companies to boost revenues, following a history of tax disputes and arrests of executives."
