Lula Appoints Hoffmann as Minister of Institutional Relations in Brazil

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has appointed Gleisi Hoffmann, the head of his Workers Party, as the new institutional relations minister, as announced by the government on Friday.

Hoffmann, a federal lawmaker and advocate of state-driven economic stimulus, will oversee negotiations between President Lula's leftist government and the conservative-majority Congress in Brazil.

Having previously served as former President Dilma Rousseff's chief of staff from 2011 to 2014, Hoffmann will succeed Alexandre Padilha in her new role.

Padilha, who was recently chosen to replace Nisia Trindade, is part of President Lula's cabinet reshuffle.
