According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, U.S. imports of crude oil from Venezuela averaged 222,000 barrels per day in the first 11 months of 2024, establishing Venezuela as the fourth-largest crude oil supplier to the United States.
Although Venezuela's oil only represented 3.5% of total U.S. crude imports in November, it accounted for approximately 13% of the crude oil acquired by U.S. Gulf Coast refineries.
The data revealed that around 90% of Venezuelan crude oil shipments to the United States last year were directed to the U.S. Gulf Coast, with the remaining 10% going to the East Coast.
Valero Energy emerged as the leading purchaser of Venezuelan crude in the U.S. during this period, acquiring 44% of the total, while oil major Chevron followed with 22%. PBF Energy purchased approximately 14% of the crude.
