An undersea fiber optic cable linking Latvia and Sweden was reportedly damaged on Sunday morning, possibly due to external interference, as disclosed by Latvian public broadcaster LSM. The Latvian Navy is examining a vessel believed to be responsible for the damage and collaborating with NATO for a thorough inquiry. Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina verified that the cable sustained significant damage within Sweden's exclusive economic zone. In response, NATO has initiated a security operation named 'Baltic Sentry' to safeguard vital infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region, bolstering its presence in the area.
