Kremlin Applauds Zelenskiy's Positive Letter to Trump on Negotiation Readiness

Russia has welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's willingness to negotiate over the war, but the Kremlin stated that it remains unclear who the negotiations would be with. Zelenskiy conveyed this message in a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, which was disclosed on Tuesday.

"Ukraine is ready to engage in negotiations promptly to advance lasting peace. Ukrainians desire peace more than anyone," Trump mentioned, quoting the letter in an address to Congress.

When asked about the Kremlin's perspective, spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded positively but highlighted the uncertainty regarding the negotiating partner. Peskov noted that, currently, the Ukrainian president is legally restricted from negotiating with the Russian side. Although the overall approach is seen as positive, the specific details have not yet changed.

Peskov referenced a Zelenskiy decree in 2022, which prohibits negotiations with President Vladimir Putin.
