Astana, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan intends to establish communication with Ukraine to prevent a recurrence of the recent Ukrainian drone strike in southern Russia. The strike targeted a pumping station of the primary Kazakh oil export pipeline, as per an official statement on Wednesday.

The assault on the facility, owned by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), occurred on Monday, just before talks involving U.S. and Russian representatives aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak mentioned on Tuesday that the damage had led to a 30-40% reduction in oil flows through the CPC, with repairs possibly taking several months.

"We will engage with the Ukrainian side," First Deputy Foreign Minister Akan Rakhmetullin was quoted by Kazakh news portal Informburo as saying.

"There will be discussions either here or in Kyiv. We must address these matters diplomatically to prevent similar incidents in the future," Rakhmetullin emphasized.
