"Japan linked more than 200 cyberattacks to a Chinese hacking group named Mirrorface, targeting national security and high technology data over the past five years. The National Police Agency concluded that Mirrorface's systematic attacks aimed to steal data from Japan's foreign and defense ministries, space agency, and various individuals and organizations. Mirrorface utilized malware-laden emails sent from Gmail and Microsoft Outlook addresses to compromise targeted organizations and individuals from December 2019 to July 2023. The agency indicated possible Chinese government involvement based on the group's attack methods and the high-profile targets included in the cyberattacks."
