In London on February 28, several British lenders, including Lloyds and Nationwide, experienced IT glitches for several hours. This occurred amid growing scrutiny by lawmakers regarding technical problems at banks that disrupted customer access to services.
Lloyds reported early on Friday that some customers faced difficulties logging into mobile and online banking. Similarly, TSB, a part of Spain's Sabadell, and Nationwide reported similar issues. First Direct, owned by HSBC, also noted problems with customer payments.
All four banks have confirmed that their services have returned to normal operation.
A spokesperson for the Financial Conduct Authority stated, "We've been engaging with firms as they resolve these issues and to ensure anyone affected doesn't lose out."
While occasional IT issues are common in banks, British lawmakers have intensified their focus on such occurrences. The Treasury Select Committee recently requested information from nine major banks and building societies regarding recent system failures, following disruptions at Barclays and Lloyds.
