DUBLIN, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Ireland intends to reduce its stake in AIB Group from 17.5% to approximately 12.5% through a placement aimed at institutional investors, the government announced on Monday.

According to a statement from the finance ministry, the plan involves selling 116 million shares in an accelerated placement, possibly completing the divestment of its remaining shares in the bank by the end of this year.
