British startup Ionetic, specializing in electric vehicle battery packs for low-volume automakers, has commenced production at a new UK pilot plant to support upcoming projects with manufacturers. CEO James Eaton stated that the company’s £5 million ($6.3 million) facility in Brackley, Northamptonshire is in line with its collaborations with British and U.S. automakers to develop EV battery packs.
Given the substantial investments by major global automakers in EV development, Ionetic focuses on serving smaller manufacturers that may struggle with the costs of electrification. Eaton emphasized that while larger automakers can allocate significant funds to this endeavor, smaller manufacturers lack such resources. Ionetic aims to provide cost-effective solutions, developing bespoke EV battery packs for customers at a fraction of the cost they would incur internally.
Eaton highlighted the importance of tailored battery packs, stating that while generic options exist, they often fall short in meeting individual requirements for range, power, and performance. Notably, Ionetic’s partnership with Rockwell Automation enables the utilization of cutting-edge hardware and software at its pilot plant, enhancing efficiency in testing battery packs virtually before full-scale production.
The startup's collaboration with bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis demonstrates its commitment to advancing EV technology, with further partnerships underway. Ionetic's innovative approach not only addresses the unique needs of lower-volume automakers but also underscores its dedication to cost-efficient and high-quality solutions in the electric vehicle industry.
