The IMF board discussed Argentina's qualification for a new program under the Exceptional Access Policy, as the country has borrowed beyond the fund's regular lending limits. This policy necessitates informal meetings with the board prior to announcing any agreement to ensure compliance with loan criteria.
The fund did not provide additional details, and the Argentine government opted not to comment.
Earlier this month, spokesperson Julie Kozack indicated that the fund is "continuing to make good progress toward a program, and we are working constructively with the Argentine authorities in this regard."
