HSBC has promoted Chito Jeyarajah to head of investment banking in Asia, marking a significant appointment for the Asia-focused bank amid its global investment banking overhaul. Jeyarajah, who currently serves as the head of equity capital markets (ECM) in the Asia Pacific, will assume his new role on April 1, as confirmed by a company spokesperson.
He joined HSBC in 2017 from Goldman Sachs, where he was a managing director in the investment banking division. This appointment follows the departure of Matthew Ginsburg, a Hong Kong-based veteran from Morgan Stanley and Barclays, who was serving as the global co-head of investment banking.
HSBC initiated a restructuring plan aimed at streamlining costs and enhancing decision-making, which includes merging its global and commercial banking divisions and discontinuing M&A and ECM operations in Europe and the Americas.
