On March 19, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of Russia's Belgorod region mentioned that the situation on the border with Ukraine remains challenging, following Moscow's claim of preventing border crossings by hostile forces.

Gladkov, head of the southwestern region, stated in a video shared on Telegram that "The situation in Krasnoyaruzhsky district remains difficult."

According to the Belgorod regional government, one soldier from the 'Orlan' unit was killed in shelling in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district, with four others wounded. The government also reported casualties in other parts of the region.

Reuters was unable to independently verify these reports, and there was no immediate response from Ukraine.

Local residents indicated on social media that access to the Krasnoyaruzhsky district had been restricted by authorities. Vitaly Kutomanov, the district head, confirmed the temporary measures were implemented "for security reasons."

It remains unclear whether these restrictions have been lifted, as Reuters was not able to confirm.

The Belgorod region has faced recurring drone and shelling attacks from Ukraine during the three-year conflict.

The Russian Defence Ministry, as reported by local news agencies on Tuesday, stated that Russian forces had prevented any attempts to breach the Belgorod border.
