Google has agreed to implement substantial measures to combat fake reviews of UK businesses, as revealed by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The CMA will oblige Google to display warnings on businesses that artificially inflate their star ratings and disable the review feature for the most egregious violators. Repeat offenders posting false reviews will face posting bans, irrespective of their location, under the CMA's directive. Sarah Cardell, Chief Executive of the CMA, confirmed the closure of the CMA's investigation into Google, while the inquiry into Amazon is ongoing.
