German Minister Condemns Comparison of Germany to Authoritarian Regime

Germany's Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, dismissed criticism from U.S. Vice President JD Vance regarding German and European political powers as unacceptable. Pistorius spoke at the Munich Security Conference, stating, "This democracy was just called into question by the U.S. Vice President, not just the German democracy but that of Europe as a whole." He further emphasized, "If I understand him correctly he compares the condition of Europe with what prevails in some authoritarian regimes...this is not acceptable." Vance, during the conference, expressed his belief that there should be no "firewall" preventing political collaboration with European parties that address immigration concerns.
