The German antitrust authority has informed Apple about concerns related to the iPhone maker's app tracking tool that may breach regulations for major tech companies, as per a statement released on Thursday.
After a three-year investigation into Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature, which permits users to prevent advertisers from tracking them across various apps, the Federal Cartel Office has reached a preliminary assessment.
According to the office, "Apple now has the opportunity to respond to the allegations."
Although Apple has defended the feature as a means for users to manage their privacy, it has faced criticism from Meta Platforms, app developers, and startups whose business models rely on tracking for advertising purposes.
