G7 Warns Russia of Imposing New Sanctions Without Ceasefire Accord

At a meeting in La Malbaie, Canada on March 14, G7 nations highlighted the crucial need for strong security measures to secure a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. They cautioned Moscow to agree to a ceasefire similar to Kyiv's terms or face additional sanctions, as per a final draft statement.

The G7 members, consisting of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, urged Russia to reciprocate by accepting a ceasefire under equitable conditions and implementing it effectively, according to the draft statement seen by Reuters.

Although the draft has been endorsed by senior diplomats, G7 officials noted that ministerial approval is still pending.

The G7 nations stressed the importance of upholding any ceasefire and reiterated the necessity of reliable security measures to enable Ukraine to prevent and defend against any potential acts of aggression.
