The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has asked a federal court in Seattle to postpone the September trial against Amazon due to significant resource shortages, according to Jonathan Cohen, an attorney for the FTC. Cohen explained that the FTC is experiencing serious resource constraints due to budget cuts implemented during President Donald Trump's administration. He mentioned that staff departures and leaves of absence have resulted in vacancies due to a hiring freeze, adding further complexity to the situation. In response, Judge John Chun has asked the FTC to formally submit their request to reschedule the trial for later in the autumn.
