Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, currently the head of the BRICS bloc's development bank, has been hospitalized in Shanghai, as reported by Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo on Monday. Rousseff, 77, who assumed the leadership of the New Development Bank (NDB) in 2023, was admitted to the Shanghai East International Medical Center after experiencing symptoms of high blood pressure, vomiting, and dizziness on Friday.
The NDB, based in Shanghai, did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours. Attempts to obtain comments from the Shanghai East International Medical Center and a representative of Rousseff were unsuccessful.
Rousseff, Brazil's first female president, governed the country from 2011 until her impeachment in 2016 amidst a severe recession that led to her removal from office.
