Last February, a spotted hyena strayed 500 kilometers north beyond its usual range into Egypt's Elba Protected Area, in a sighting not seen for 5,000 years. Following the killing of two goats, local herders hunted down and eliminated the hyena near the Sudan border.
This unprecedented migration is believed to be facilitated by recent environmental shifts such as heightened rainfall and vegetation growth in the area over the past five years. The discovery not only defies conventional understanding of hyena distribution but also underscores the influence of climate change on wildlife.
