One person has died following a shooting in Brussels, believed to be connected to clashes between rival drug gangs, as announced by the local prosecutor's office on Friday. The incident sheds light on the increasing crime rates in the Belgian capital, which also hosts the main EU institutions.
According to a spokesperson for the Brussels prosecutor's office, "There was a shooting this morning in Anderlecht. One person died in the incident, likely linked to rival drug gangs."
The recent fatal shooting on Friday comes after another incident that occurred on Wednesday in Brussels. Although Wednesday's shooting caused no injuries, it prompted a temporary closure of several metro stations in Brussels as the police searched for the suspects.
The Brussels prosecutor's office has stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine if Friday's fatal shooting is connected to the earlier incident from the week.
