The European Commission has invited social media giants such as Facebook, TikTok, and X to join a test to evaluate their efforts in combating disinformation ahead of the upcoming German election. The test, scheduled for January 31st, aims to ensure compliance with the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA) by assessing the platforms' safeguards against potential risks.
According to EU spokesperson Thomas Regnier, the "stress test" involves simulating scenarios to gauge how platforms would respond under the DSA framework. TikTok confirmed its participation, while Meta, Snap, Google’s Alphabet, X, Microsoft, and LinkedIn did not immediately comment on the matter.
Senior compliance officers and specialists responsible for DSA implementation from each company have been invited to the closed-door test. Regnier noted that this is the first test conducted for a national election following a successful one conducted prior to the European Parliament elections last year in collaboration with German authorities.
