The EU is tightening regulations on unsafe e-commerce imports, focusing on companies such as Temu and Shein due to suspected violations of consumer protection regulations. Last year, the EU expressed worry over 4.6 billion low-value items imported into the bloc, which was twice the number in 2023, with 91% originating from China. To address this issue, the EU intends to introduce a handling fee for e-commerce imports to fund oversight expenses and facilitate pre-shipment inspections for hazardous goods.
