BRUSSELS, Jan 15 (Reuters) - The European Commission is committed to fully enforcing its regulations governing social media and other major online platforms and has not postponed any actions against U.S. Big Tech, stated the EU digital chief on Wednesday.

Commission Vice President Henna Virkkunen assured reporters that there have been no delays concerning the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which enforces antitrust responsibilities, and the Digital Services Act (DSA), which addresses content moderation.

Virkkunen mentioned that investigations into Apple, Meta, and Google were ongoing, in a technical phase involving discussions with the companies before any decisions could be made.

"We are rigorously implementing the DMA and the DSA," she emphasized.

Virkkunen stressed that these two acts serve as robust mechanisms applying to all enterprises, including European ones, that offer services within the European Union, aiming to establish a fair and secure online environment for all users.

Furthermore, she highlighted that the DSA aims to safeguard freedom of speech rather than restrict it.

Last week, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized the increasing number of laws in Europe, which he claimed "institutionalize censorship," while also urging U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to intervene and prevent the EU from imposing fines on American tech companies.
