Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the EU will impose retaliatory tariffs amounting to €26 billion against the U.S., in response to the U.S. imposing 25% tariffs on European goods. The newly introduced tariffs will affect items such as motorcycles, bourbon, and jeans from states known for their support of the Republican party. Von der Leyen has tasked EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic with reopening discussions with the U.S. to explore improved trade resolutions. The American Chamber of Commerce has cautioned that these tariffs could negatively impact employment opportunities, emphasizing the importance of prompt negotiations for a mutually beneficial resolution.
