The European Union, as announced by EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen, will invest $5 billion in aid and development projects in South Africa. The majority of the funding is intended to facilitate the shift towards clean energy, focusing on wind, solar, and hydrogen power production. This disclosure took place during the first bilateral summit between the EU and South Africa in seven years. Prior to meeting President Ramaphosa, Von der Leyen expressed the importance of the partnership between Europe and South Africa.
