On Wednesday, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian stated that the flight crew aboard the regional jet that flipped upon landing in Toronto earlier in the week was experienced and familiar with wintry conditions in Toronto. In an interview with "CBS Mornings," Bastian emphasized the pilots' continuous training for such conditions and commended their swift evacuation of the aircraft after the "horrifying" incident.
Bastian mentioned that, despite recent incidents, air travel remains the safest form of transportation. Regarding the crash at Toronto Pearson Airport, investigators are still analyzing the wreckage and determining the factors contributing to the event. The aircraft involved, a 16-year-old CRJ900 made by Canada's Bombardier, can accommodate up to 90 passengers.
Additionally, Bastian mentioned speaking with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and expressed confidence in the Federal Aviation Administration's safety functions. He also highlighted the administration's commitment to enhancing air traffic controller recruitment and upgrading air traffic technology.
